It is a happy Monday at the Humane Society of York County (HSYC), but for a few special residents, the week would be much brighter if they found their forever families. This week, the rescue is highlighting a “purr machine” looking for a second chance and a young pup who is proving that a home environment makes all the difference.
Cat of the Week: Gimlet
Meet Gimlet, a handsome boy who is fairly new to the rescue. Gimlet came to HSYC as an owner surrender and is looking to catch a break. At just over 4 years old, he is in the prime of his life—described by volunteers as funny, playful, silly, and absolutely gorgeous.
Gimlet is known around the shelter as a “purr machine” who simply wants to be loved. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to go. With a proper transition period, the HSYC is confident he would do well with other feline friends. If Gimlet gets your heart racing, stop in to meet him today.
Dog of the Week: Blair
If the name Blair sounds familiar, it’s because she is worth a repeat mention. This 10-month-old terrier mix was pulled from Animal Control, but she found the rescue environment overwhelmingly stressful.
However, Blair is now temporarily in foster care and is absolutely thriving. Her transformation proves that once she is out of the shelter noise and into a home, she is full of appreciation and love. She is a sweet “snuggle-bug” looking for an individual, couple, or family willing to help her grow in confidence with love and stability. Blair does well with other dogs and is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. She just needs a little patience to blossom into a best friend.
Special Appeal: Lady Danbury
The HSYC has an urgent request for the “Beagle Peeps” in the community. Lady Danbury, a sweet-faced beauty, recently underwent a traumatic but necessary surgery to reconstruct both of her back legs. This surgery was vital to improve her quality of life for future adoption.
While she is currently rehabilitating in foster care, the medical costs were significant. The rescue is asking the community to please donate if possible to help offset the costs of this in-depth surgery.
Shelter Needs and Success Stories
To keep the rescue running, the HSYC is currently in need of the following items:
-
Dog treats (both soft and hard)
-
Pine cat litter
-
Bleach
-
Laundry detergent
-
Volunteers to pick up, wash, dry, fold, and return laundry.
Despite the challenges, 2026 is off to an incredible start. Year-to-date, the HSYC has already placed 149 pets(39 dogs and 110 cats) into their forever homes.
