A milestone night for sophomore sensation Ariah Heard provided the backdrop for a dominant postseason start as Nation Ford defeated Hillcrest 56-39 in Tuesday night’s varsity home playoff game.
Heard entered the record books during the contest, surpassing the 1,000-point career mark in just her second season of high school basketball. The milestone served as the emotional high point for a Falcons squad that looked every bit the contender, using a stifling defense and a balanced scoring attack to dismantle the Rams.

The Falcons established their rhythm early, but it was a 21-point explosion in the second quarter that broke the game open. Nation Ford’s Haven Land provided the outside spark, draining a pair of three-pointers during the first half to help build a 33-18 halftime cushion. Land finished the night with eight points and a gritty defensive performance.
Hillcrest struggled to navigate the Falcons’ length and transition speed. Despite efforts from Malan Alston and Alana Scott to keep the Rams within striking distance, the deficit widened in the third quarter as Nation Ford extended the lead to 47-27.

The Falcons showed poise in the closing minutes, effectively putting the game away at the charity stripe. Nation Ford connected on five straight free throws late in the fourth quarter to stave off any hope of a Hillcrest comeback.
With the win, Nation Ford advances to the second round of the playoffs. The Falcons will hit the road this Saturday to face the Greenwood Eagles.
