Officer Involved Shooting in Fort Mill

YORK COUNTY, SC – Sheriff Tony Breeden has requested that South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) agents investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred on January 30, 2026, in York County.

On January 30, at approximately 9:20 a.m., York County Deputies responded to Pine Ridge Ct., Fort Mill, SC, regarding a person who was unconscious and not breathing. When deputies arrived on the scene, the person was no longer unconscious and was found inside a house, armed with a knife.

The person barricaded themselves in a room with a knife. The deputy ordered the person to put the knife down and exit the room. The person opened the door, refused to put down the knife, and charged at the deputy. The deputy fired his weapon, killing the suspect.

No deputies were physically injured in the incident.

Per York County Sheriff’s Office policy, the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has been called to investigate the incident. In addition, the involved Deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave. All further information will come from SLED.
