The Indian Land Warriors survived a furious defensive rally from Fort Mill, using a fourth-quarter touchdown run to earn a critical 20-16 victory Friday night, securing full control of the Region 3-5A standings.
Fort Mill, seeking its first conference win, relied entirely on its defense and special teams to build a 16-14 halftime lead, demonstrating that its record may not reflect the team’s true capability.

Indian Land (now 9-0 overall, 5-0 region) wasted no time striking early when, after intercepting a Fort Mill pass, the Warriors converted a 70-yard passing touchdown to take an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
However, the Yellow Jackets’ defense turned the tide in the second quarter. Fort Mill first scored on a 12-yard fumble recovery returned for a touchdown, though the subsequent extra point was missed, making the score 7-6. After an Indian Land 25-yard touchdown pass briefly stretched the lead to 14-6, Fort Mill answered quickly with a 43-yard field goal from Noah Hardy.
The biggest defensive play of the night came moments later when Fort Mill’s Josiah McGill scooped up another loose ball and ran 40 yards for a touchdown. Hardy’s successful PAT gave the Yellow Jackets a 16-14 lead heading into the break.

The third quarter was dominated by defensive efforts and punts, with neither team able to move the scoreboard.
The Warriors finally found the necessary offensive punch in the fourth quarter. After driving inside the 20-yard line, Indian Land scored on a 22-yard rushing touchdown to reclaim the lead, 20-16. A two-point conversion attempt failed, keeping the Yellow Jackets within striking distance.
Fort Mill mounted a late comeback attempt, driving the ball inside the Indian Land 20-yard line in the final minute, but the Warriors’ defense held strong, forcing a turnover on downs to seal the victory.

Indian Land remains undefeated and holds a commanding lead in Region 3-5A. Fort Mill (4-5, 0-5 region) remains winless in conference play and will host rival Nation Ford next Friday for its final opportunity to secure a region victory. In other area action, Nation Ford fell to Clover 21-17, and Rock Hill defeated Catawba Ridge 16-7.
