The Nation Ford Falcons are circling for a much-needed win, but to get it, they’ll have to stare down the barrel of a tough rival.

The Falcons (3-4), currently reeling from a three-game losing streak, are set to host the Catawba Ridge Copperheads (4-3) at 7:30 p.m. Friday in a high-stakes cross-town clash that is essential for both teams’ playoff positioning.

Nation Ford’s most recent outing saw them fall well behind Rock Hill in a 30-14 loss last Friday. However, the performance was not without its bright spots, offering a glimmer of hope that the skid could soon end. Quarterback Kason Canupp put on a display of grit and versatility, throwing for 209 yards and two touchdowns while adding a team-high 56 yards on the ground. His favorite target, Asher Beck, hauled in 87 of those passing yards, including a receiving touchdown, continuing a season of high-volume production for the star receiver.

Quarterback Clash: Dual-Threat vs. Pocket Presence

This rivalry contest features a compelling matchup under center. Nation Ford’s offense is driven by the dynamic play of senior QB Kason Canupp, a true dual-threat.

  • Canupp’s Impact: Through seven games, Canupp has accounted for 1,922 passing yards and 17 touchdowns while also adding 364 yards rushing (averaging 52 yards per game). His ability to extend plays and challenge defenses with his arm and legs makes him the key to the Falcons’ upset hopes.

On the Copperheads’ side, the offense is typically managed by either Bradey Compton or Will Griggs, both of whom are known for their efficiency and lower turnover rates. While Nation Ford relies on a primary playmaker, Catawba Ridge utilizes a more balanced attack, which will challenge the Falcons’ defense to prepare for multiple looks. The game may come down to which quarterback can maintain composure and protect the ball under intense rivalry pressure.

Copperheads Also Facing a Bumpy Road

The Copperheads are entering the matchup after a difficult 34-7 loss to Indian Land, a game where the long-running trend of the away team dominating the rivalry held true for yet another year. The defeat dropped Catawba Ridge’s record to 4-3, keeping them just ahead of Nation Ford in the standings.

The recent history between these two teams strongly favors the Copperheads. Nation Ford suffered a crushing 34-7 blow the last time they met in October 2024. With this year’s game shifting from the road to the Falcons’ home turf.

The Falcons will need Canupp and Beck to deliver another standout night if they hope to reverse their fortunes and get their record back to .500 against a strong Copperheads squad.

The game is scheduled for 7:30 pm this Friday at Nation Ford.
