Tega Cay Ranked South Carolina’s Richest City; Fort Mill Comes In at No. 7

TEGA CAY, S.C. — Tega Cay has been named the wealthiest place to live in South Carolina, topping a new statewide list that also places Fort Mill at No. 7. The rankings come from Money Inc’s feature, “The 30 Richest Places to Live in South Carolina,” published July 9 and updated October 9, 2025.

According to the analysis, Tega Cay’s No. 1 position reflects high household incomes, strong home values, very low poverty, and quality-of-life amenities tied to Lake Wylie—factors the outlet highlighted in its city profile. Fort Mill’s Top-10 finish underscores the town’s high-earning, fast-growing suburban economy linked to the Charlotte metro area.

Who’s in the Top 10

The list places Tega Cay first, followed by Kiawah Island, Five Forks, Mount Pleasant and Daniel Island to round out the top five. Fort Mill ranks seventh. Rock Hill was ranked 21st and York 24th, landing four York County municipalities in the top 30.

Why It Matters

Both Tega Cay and Fort Mill continue to attract families and professionals seeking strong schools, safe neighborhoods and convenient access to Charlotte’s job market—conditions that support higher incomes and property values over time. Money Inc’s write-ups for both communities cite those drivers along with recreation access and overall livability as key differentiators.
