Nation Ford Shoots 188 to Defeat Rock Hill, York; Prep Roundup

Nation Ford High School cruised to a decisive victory over county rivals York and Rock Hill on Tuesday, posting a winning team score of 188 at the Springfield Country Club.

The Falcons’ combined score of 188 put them 12 strokes ahead of second-place York High School, which finished the round with a 200. The strong showing by Nation Ford solidifies their position among the top prep golf programs in the area early in the season.

The event saw the York Cougars finish as runners-up, maintaining a comfortable lead over Rock Hill High School. Rock Hill struggled to keep pace, ultimately carding a 222 to finish in third place.

Nation Ford’s Piper Sabino led the scoring with a 39, followed by Sydney Pounds (48), Carolyn Miller (50), Ava Doan (51), and Mary Kate Quinlan (51). The decisive victory gives the Falcons momentum as they turn their attention to the postseason. Nation Ford is scheduled to compete next in the region tournament in Chester. A successful showing there would advance the team to the subsequent round, known as the upper state qualifier, which is also slated for Chester the following Monday. Success in the upper state qualifier is the final step needed to secure a berth in the state championship tournament in Myrtle Beach.

Prep Roundup

In other prep action, the Northwestern varsity volleyball team was swept at home by Catawba Ridge. The Copperheads secured the region victory in three sets, posting scores of 25-17, 25-6, and 25-17 to claim the match.

The Catawba Ridge girls’ golf team won Monday’s Milltown Showdown at Fort Mill Golf Club, shooting ateam score of 343. Fort Mill finished second (364) and Nation Ford third (372).

Nation Ford’s varsity boys volleyball team defeated Blythewood 3-2 on the road — 25-19, 29-27, 15-25, 18-25, 15-11.

Fort Mill’s girls tennis team defeated Clover 6-0. The school’s boys and girls varsity volleyball teams each lost to Clover. The girls by a score of 1-2 and the boys 0-3.
