Fort Mill’s Rovenstein sets state’s fastest 5K time, teams dominate

Fort Mill High School’s cross country teams delivered a strong performance on Tuesday at the Anne Springs Close Greenway, highlighted by a record-setting run from junior Kaylee Rovenstein.

Rovenstein clocked the fastest 5K time in the state this season, finishing in 18:06 to lead the girls’ team to a dominant outing. The Yellow Jackets placed seven runners in the top 10, with Catawba Ridge, Northwestern, and Clover high schools taking the remaining three spots.

On the boys’ side, Fort Mill’s Connor Demmerle won the individual title with a time of 16:09. The team secured three other top 10 finishes, though they were closely followed by the Catawba Ridge Copperheads, who placed five runners in the top 10. Clover’s Aidan Miller captured seventh place for his team.

PREP ROUNDUP

  • Volleyball: Nation Ford’s varsity girls defeated Northwestern 3-0, while the boys’ varsity team also secured a road win against Northwestern, 3-2. In a separate match, the Fort Mill varsity boys’ team lost 3-0 at home to conference rival Catawba Ridge.
  • Tennis: The Nation Ford girls’ tennis team beat Northwestern 5-1.
  • Swimming: On Thursday, Aug. 28, the Nation Ford swim team swept a six-team meet at the Fort Mill Aquatics Center, improving their overall record to 8-1. The boys’ and girls’ teams both went 5-0 in the meet, defeating Andrew Jackson, South Pointe, Rock Hill, Indian Land, and Lancaster.
  • Football: The Nation Ford Falcons earned their first win of the season on Friday, defeating York 28-14 to move to 1-1 on the year. In other action on Friday, the Catawba Ridge Copperheads fell to the Dorman Cavaliers 30-7, also dropping their record to 1-1. Also that night, the Fort Mill Varsity Boys Football team won their game against Chester High School 35-14.
