Bicyclist Killed in Crash on Fort Mill Highway in Indian Land

A fatal collision occurred Thursday afternoon when a bicyclist was struck by a van along Fort Mill Highway near Calvin Hall Road in Lancaster County.

Authorities identified the bicyclist as 78‑year‑old Frank Carter of Indian Land. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the collision happened at approximately 1:30 p.m., when a 2017 Ford Transit van, traveling eastbound, struck Carter, who was riding in the same direction.

Carter died at the scene, as confirmed by the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office. The van had two occupants, neither of whom were injured in the crash. As of now, no charges have been announced, and the South Carolina Highway Patrol continues its investigation.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety in areas where both cyclists and drivers share narrow or high-traffic routes. Fort Mill Highway remains a major corridor for residents and commuters in northern Lancaster County.
