Gamecocks Get Boost with Faison’s Eligibility, Sarratt Lands on Freshman Watch List

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina has added another key piece to its roster ahead of the 2025 season opener, while one of its promising freshmen is already garnering national attention.

The university confirmed Tuesday that transfer running back Rahsul Faison has been granted an additional year of eligibility, making him available to play this fall. Faison, a second-team All-Mountain West Conference selection at Utah State in 2024, ran for 1,109 yards and eight touchdowns on 198 carries last season. He ranked fourth in the conference in rushing with 92.4 yards per game and had five 100-yard rushing performances.

In other news, freshman offensive lineman Shedrick Sarratt Jr. was named to the watch list for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award. The Gaffney, South Carolina, native is one of 37 players on the list for the award, given annually to the most outstanding freshman in college football. Sarratt, a 6-foot-4, 336-pound lineman, was named the Gamecocks’ Newcomer of the Spring for offense and is competing for a starting guard spot.

South Carolina opens its 2025 season on Sunday, Aug. 31, against Virginia Tech in the Aflac Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m. EDT and will be televised on ESPN.
