Falcons Fall to Bengals, Copperheads & Yellow Jackets Earn Dominant Wins

FORTS MILL, S.C. — Kason Canupp and the Nation Ford Falcons’ high-flying offense couldn’t outlast James Veasey and the Blythewood Bengals, falling 34-27 Friday in a season-opening shootout. The loss extends Nation Ford’s losing streak to ten games, dating back to last season.

Canupp put up a spectacular individual performance in the defeat, throwing for 375 yards and four touchdowns while adding another 117 yards on the ground. Wide receiver Jayden Scott was Canupp’s favorite target, hauling in 214 receiving yards.

Despite the Falcons’ offensive fireworks, Veasey stole the show for the Bengals. The dual-threat quarterback rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns while adding 193 yards and another score through the air. Veasey connected with Ben Hendrix for 93 of his passing yards.

Nation Ford will look to snap their skid when they host York at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Copperheads Shutout Eagles in Season Opener

The Catawba Ridge Copperheads started their season with a dominant performance, shutting out the Chapin Eagles 30-0 on the road Friday. The win was sweet revenge for the Copperheads, who lost a high-scoring affair to the Eagles last season.

Catawba Ridge’s next game isn’t until Sept. 5, when they’ll take on Chester at 7:30 p.m.

Yellow Jackets Dominate in Rout

Fort Mill made a statement in their home opener, overwhelming the Ballantyne Ridge Wolves with a 52-6 victory on Friday.

Running back Broden Mitcheson led the charge, rushing for a career-high 127 yards and three touchdowns on just 14 carries. Quarterback Quinn Kelly was also impressive, completing 76% of his passes for 189 yards and a touchdown.

The Yellow Jackets’ defense and special teams were equally impactful. The defense forced three interceptions, including a pick-six by Joseph Duey, who also had a second interception. Jeremiah Young also snagged a pick.

The special teams unit racked up 16 points, highlighted by Deveian Southward’s kickoff return for a touchdown.

Fort Mill will travel to take on Chester at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
