FORT MILL, S.C. — A tragic incident unfolded on Independence Day when a 24-year-old man from Florence drowned at Nivens Creek in Fort Mill, according to the York County Coroner’s Office.
Arthur Moore III was pulled from the water Friday evening by first responders and transported to Piedmont Medical Center on Wellness Way. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
The York County Coroner’s Office responded to the hospital to investigate the circumstances surrounding the drowning. The York County Sheriff’s Office is also involved in the ongoing investigation.
An autopsy and toxicology testing are pending as authorities work to determine the exact cause of death.
Moore’s death marks a somber moment for the community during what is typically a day of celebration.
