ATHENS, GA (May 5, 2025) — The University of Georgia will recognize more than 8,000 candidates for graduation during its Spring 2025 Commencement ceremonies, with several York County students among those earning degrees.
The undergraduate commencement will take place Friday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Sanford Stadium. Graduate ceremonies are scheduled for Thursday, May 8, in Stegeman Coliseum, with the master’s and specialist ceremony at 10 a.m. and the doctoral ceremony at 2:30 p.m.

These local graduates will join thousands of others celebrating academic achievement at Georgia’s flagship public university.
UGA alumnus and four-time Paralympian Jarryd Wallace will deliver the undergraduate commencement address. Wallace has earned two bronze medals during his athletic career. The graduate ceremonies will feature remarks by Paige Carmichael, a Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professor and University Professor in the Department of Pathology.

Thomas Hyslip lives in Tega Cay with his wife and daughter. After 27 years in the U.S. Army and Federal Law Enforcement, he retired to pursue his passion for teaching. Tom is now an Assistant Professor of Instruction at the University of South Florida. In 2 short years he has won 10 awards from the South Carolina Press Association, including first place in column writing, education beat reporting and best podcast.
