Fort Mill Girls Advance to Upper State Final; Catawba Falls Short; Dorman Tops Clover

CLOVER, S.C. — Dorman continued their winning streak against Clover, defeating the team 17-13 in the Class 5A Division-1 upper state semifinals Friday night. Dorman also handed Clover their only regular season loss.

The Cavaliers (14-3) will advance to the championship game Monday to face Boiling Springs.

Clover (13-2) took an early 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. However, the Cavaliers responded with a three unanswered goalts to take a 5-3 advantage with 8:30 remaining in the half.

Following a Clover timeout, Aiden Hawkins narrowed the gap to 5-4. Clover forced a turnover, and Hawkins scored again to tie the game at 5. However, Dorman won the ensuing face-off and quickly regained the lead at 6-5.

Dorman extended its lead to 8-5 with two quick goals in the final minutes of the second quarter. Despite a Clover timeout with 1:11 remaining, the Blue Eagles appeared to lack energy heading into halftime trailing by three.

Clover hung tough in the third quarter, but Dorman maintained a 13-10 lead heading into the final period. The Blue Eagles’ defense held Dorman scoreless for the first half of the fourth quarter, allowing the offense to close the gap to 13-12. However, Dorman responded with three consecutive goals to take a 16-12 lead with just over five minutes remaining.

Clover added one final goal, but Dorman closed out the 17-13 victory.

In other area lacrosse action, the Fort Mill High School girls lacrosse team defeated Riverside 13-9 on Friday night. Fort Mill will face T.L. Hanna on the road at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Class 5A Division-2 girls upper state championship. T.L. Hanna defeated Catawba Ridge 9-4 Friday night.
