Major Upgrades Coming to Walking Trails at Fort Mill’s Walter Y. Elisha Park

FORT MILL, SC – The walking trails at Walter Y. Elisha Park are set for a major transformation, with upgrades that promise wider paths, improved lighting, and additional amenities for visitors.

Construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, March 31, starting with the trail that connects Walter Y. Elisha Park to Harris Street. This portion of the trail will be closed for approximately two weeks as crews replace the existing asphalt with a new concrete pathway. Town officials are asking for public patience during this phase of construction.

Once the South Carolina Strawberry Festival wraps up in early May, work will begin on replacing the park’s main walking trail. The existing 6-foot-wide asphalt path will be removed and replaced with a wider 8-foot concrete sidewalk, providing more space for walkers, runners, and cyclists.

In addition to the wider path, the park will see several new enhancements, including:

  • 38 new light poles and fixtures for better visibility in the evenings
  • New benches, picnic tables, and bench swings for added comfort
  • Bike racks and additional trash cans to improve convenience and cleanliness

Despite the construction, Walter Y. Elisha Park will remain open, with clearly marked detours around the affected trails. Town officials urge visitors to follow posted signs and exercise caution near work zones.
