Spartanburg struggled to find their rhythm, particularly with their clears, allowing the Yellow Jackets to maintain relentless pressure. A costly illegal body check by Spartanburg’s goalie, Michael Harris, further hampered their efforts. The second quarter saw FMHS further solidify their dominance. Maloney quickly added another goal, making it 3-0. The Yellow Jackets’ dominance in faceoffs proved crucial, with Fort Mill’s Charlie McGuire scooping up a loose ball and scoring to push the lead to 4-0.
Finally, Spartanburg found the net, scoring at the 6:28 mark. However, the Yellowjacket’s responded, maintaining a 4-1 advantage. Spartanburg’s Chapman Hughes then scored again, making it 4-2, but Fort Mill closed the half with a goal to make it 5-2.
Spartanburg’s defense showed signs of life in the second half, making it more difficult for the Yellow Jackets to score. However, Fort Mill broke through seven minutes into the third quarter, extending their lead to 6-2.
