CHARLOTTE, NC — A Flood Watch is in effect for portions of North Carolina and South Carolina, including Cabarrus, Gaston, Mecklenburg, Union (NC), and York (SC) counties, from 8 p.m. this evening through Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service warns that flash flooding is possible due to excessive rainfall expected in the region.
What to Expect:
- Timing: The Flood Watch begins at 8 p.m. tonight and will last through Tuesday morning.
- Rainfall Totals: The Charlotte metro area could receive between 2 and 4 inches of rain, with some areas seeing up to 5 inches. This heavy rainfall is likely to cause flooding in rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying areas prone to flooding.
Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flash flooding, which could affect roads, homes, and businesses in flood-prone areas. Areas that don’t typically experience flooding may still be at risk.
Preparedness: Residents are advised to monitor the latest forecasts and be ready to take action if Flash Flood Warnings are issued. Flash floods can develop rapidly, posing a serious risk to life and property.
