YORK COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities are investigating after human remains were discovered near a highway in York County.
According to the York County Sheriff’s Office, the remains were found by workers on Tuesday afternoon near Highway 557 and Ridge Road, east of Clover.
Investigators have not yet identified the individual. The remains were so severely deteriorated that the person’s gender could not be determined, and it is unclear how long the remains had been there. The cause of death has not been established.
York County officials have released no further information at this time. The sheriff’s office is continuing its investigation into the matter.
