A widespread recall of ice cream products, including South Carolina has been issued due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause severe illness and even death. Maryland-based Totally Cool, Inc. has voluntarily recalled products from numerous popular brands distributed across the U.S., including Friendly’s, Hershey’s, Jeni’s, and many others.
Listeria poses the greatest risk to vulnerable groups like children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. Even healthy individuals may experience temporary symptoms like high fever, headaches, nausea, and diarrhea.
If you have purchased any ice cream products from the brands listed below, it is crucial to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund:
- Friendly’s
- Abilyn’s Frozen Bakery
- Hershey’s Ice Cream
- Yelloh!
- Jeni’s
- Cumberland Farms
- The Frozen Farmer
- Marco
- ChipWich
- AMAFruits
- Taharka
- Dolcezza
- LaSalle
As of now, no illnesses have been linked to this recall. However, consumers are urged to take this warning seriously and check their freezers for any recalled products.
For detailed information on the recall, including photos of affected products, please visit the FDA’s official website:fda.gov.
