Sheriff Tolson releases new information about a March 2nd officer involved shooting

YORK COUNTY, SC – As State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) agents continue to investigate the officer involved in the shooting incident on March 2, 2024, Sheriff Kevin Tolson is releasing the name of the deputy involved.

Lance Corporal Berlin Gipson is the SWAT Team member who fired his rifle during the incident with suspect Charlie Baker. LCpl. Gipson has been a deputy with the York County Sheriff’s Office since June 2021.

Per sheriff’s office policy, LCpl. Gipson has been placed on paid administrative leave. SLED continues the investigation at the request of the York County Sheriff’s Office.
