YORK COUNTY, S.C. (January 9, 2024) – As heavy rain and strong winds lash the Carolinas, thousands are left grappling with power outages. Between Duke Energy and York Electric Cooperative, over 3,000 customers are currently without power. York, SC, bears the brunt of the outages, with close to 1,300 Duke Energy customers experiencing darkness since 10:30 am and over 1700 York York Electric Cooperative powerless.
The worst of the weather is expected to hit this afternoon before clearing out by evening. Until then, York County residents should prepare for potential continued outages and exercise caution as visibility deteriorates and winds remain strong.
