Duke Energy Carolinas seeks 7.1% rate increase in SC

Greenville, SC (Tega Cay Sun) – Duke Energy Carolinas is seeking approval from the Public Service Commission of South Carolina (PSCSC) to recoup the costs associated with the fuel used to generate electricity for homes and businesses in South Carolina. If the request is granted, starting from November 1, the average monthly residential bill would experience a 7.1% increase.

For a residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per month, this rate change would result in a monthly increase of $9.23, taking the bill from $129.36 to $138.59.

Commercial customers, if approved, would face a 5.6% rate increase, while industrial customers would experience a 6.2% rate increase.

Duke Energy Carolinas provides electricity to approximately 660,000 households and businesses, primarily in the Upstate region of South Carolina, which includes York, Spartanburg, Greenville and Anderson counties.
