Greenville, SC (Tega Cay Sun) – Two Fort Mill High School coaches were awarded coach of the year by the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association at their annual conference on July 25, 2023.
Cindy Van BusKirk was named the coach of the year in Girls Swimming and Chris Brock was named coach of the year in Wrestling.
The Fort Mill High School Girls Swim Team won the 5A State Championships under Coach Van BusKirk’s leadership and also had two individual state champions and two relay team champions.
Coach Brock’s Fort Mill High School Wrestling Team won the South Carolina 5A State Championships and had one individual champion.
Coach Kristin Rhodes of Catawba Ridge High School was named the 2023 Coach of the Year in Cheer.

Thomas Hyslip lives in Tega Cay with his wife and daughter. After 27 years in the U.S. Army and Federal Law Enforcement, he retired to pursue his passion for teaching. Tom is now an Assistant Professor of Instruction at the University of South Florida. In 2 short years he has won 10 awards from the South Carolina Press Association, including first place in column writing, education beat reporting and best podcast.
