Tega Cay, SC (Tega Cay Sun) – According to a recent study by WalletHub, South Carolina’s school system ranked 42nd out of 51 states and the District of Columbia. The study evaluated various aspects of school systems, encompassing 32 different metrics such as school safety, class size, and instructor qualifications. These metrics were divided into two main dimensions: quality and safety.
Notably, the quality score had the most significant impact on the overall ranking. Massachusetts, recognized for having the nation’s top school system, secured the first position in both school quality and safety.
In contrast, South Carolina received a discouraging rank of 44th for quality, with a score of 42.09. This lower ranking was attributed, in part, to below-average test scores and a relatively high drop-out rate. The state also ranked 30th in terms of safety, earning a score of 42.73.
Comparatively, North Carolina fared slightly better, achieving an overall rank of 32nd, with a total score of 48.51. It ranked 36th in quality and 20th in safety.
