A new hotel could be coming to the area of Carowinds, a popular theme park in Fort Mill, South Carolina. The hotel would be located on Cabelas Drive, just south of the sporting goods store and behind the Moe’s Southwest Grill and Famous Dave’s barbecue restaurants.
The proposed hotel would be four stories tall and have 107 rooms. Parking would be available on Cabelas Drive and Monorail Drive, as well as on the Cabela’s store site. The hotel would be 60,000 square feet in size, but no name brand has been announced yet.
Carowinds is a popular destination for both locals and tourists, and the new hotel would provide additional lodging options for park guests. The area is also home to a number of other businesses, so the hotel could also serve the growing business community.
The planning commission in York County unanimously voted in favor of the zoning change for the new hotel on Monday night. The final decision on the rezoning will come from York County Council. If the project moves through the three needed county council readings and a public hearing as scheduled, a final decision could come in September.
This is just one of several new hotels that are being planned in the Fort Mill and Rock Hill area. The cities have been at the front of a surge of new hotel growth in recent years.
The proposed hotel near Carowinds would be a welcome addition to the area, and it would provide much-needed lodging options for park guests and businesses alike.
