Tega Cay, SC – Tega Cay’s own, Model A Brewing won two medals at the U.S. Open Beer Championship on July 10, 2023. The U.S. Open Beer Championship is one of the largest beer competitions in the world and had more than 9,000 beers entered by 3,107 brewers. Model A Brewing won the Silver Medal for the best Marzen/Oktoberfest and the Bronze Medal for Altbier. These wins follow up their first place gold medal win last year for their Strawberry Kolsch. Model A Brewing is located at 1175 Stonecrest Boulevard, Tega Cay, SC.

Thomas Hyslip lives in Tega Cay with his wife and daughter. After 27 years in the U.S. Army and Federal Law Enforcement, he retired to pursue his passion for teaching. Tom is now an Assistant Professor of Instruction at the University of South Florida. In 2 short years he has won 10 awards from the South Carolina Press Association, including first place in column writing, education beat reporting and best podcast.
