YCSO Traffic Unit Receives Multiple Awards from M.A.D.D.

YORK COUNTY, SC – The York County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit has been honored with multiple awards from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D.) of South Carolina, recognizing their exceptional efforts in combating impaired driving.

Senior Deputy Christopher Anderson received the prestigious Rick Moore Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) of the Year award, highlighting his expertise and dedication in identifying and apprehending drug-impaired drivers. Additionally, Deputy II Arens Marthone was one of five officers awarded the DUI Enforcer of the Year, a testament to his outstanding work in removing impaired drivers from the roads.

While YCSO was nominated for the DUI Agency of the Year award, the honor ultimately went to Berkeley County. The multiple individual awards underscore the significant contributions of YCSO’s Traffic Unit to public safety in York County.

“I could not be prouder of my guys,” said Sgt. Ryan Quinn, Traffic Unit Supervisor. “It’s a direct result of our relentless efforts to get impaired drivers off our roads in York County, which makes all of us and our families a little safer.”

Special recognition was also given to YCSO Special Prosecutor Gary Apfel for his dedicated work in successfully prosecuting traffic enforcement unit cases. His support has been instrumental in the Traffic Unit’s ongoing mission to enhance road safety in the community.
