South Carolina is gearing up for its Presidential Primaries, with the state law dictating the timing for early voting and Election Day set by political parties. Here’s what you need to know:
Election Days for Presidential Primary:
– Democratic Primary: Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024
– Republican Primary: Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024
Note: Voters can only participate in one party’s primary and South Carolina does not require voters to register by party.
Voter Registration Deadlines:
– For the Democratic Primary: Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024
– For the Republican Primary: Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024
Absentee By-Mail Voting:
– Democratic Primary: Request an Absentee By-Mail Application in person, by phone, or by USPS mail. The deadline for returning the application is Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024, by 5:00 PM. Ballots will be mailed 30 days before the election and must be returned by 7:00 PM on Election Day, Feb. 3, 2024.
– Republican Primary: Similar procedures apply, with the application deadline on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024, and ballot return by 7:00 PM on Election Day, Feb. 24, 2024.
Early Voting Locations:
– York County Government Center, Baxter Hood Center at York Technical College, Winthrop Student Activity Center, First United Methodist Church in Clover, plus one additional location to be determined.
