Nation Ford Lacrosse Fends Off Cuthbertson Rally, Ameo Breaks Scoring Record

The Nation Ford Falcons boys lacrosse team soared to a 2-0 start this season, securing an 11-9 victory over the visiting Cuthbertson High School Cavaliers on Thursday night. The Falcons showcased their offensive prowess early, launching a four-goal barrage that set the tone for the evening. Josh Ameo, Holden Kestnbaum, and Quinn Tauzin each found the back of the net, establishing a commanding lead. It wasn’t until the second quarter that Cuthbertson managed to break through, finally registering their first score.

However, the Cavaliers refused to back down. They mounted a spirited comeback in the second half, testing the Falcons’ resolve. Nation Ford, though, demonstrated resilience, relying on a combination of strategic goal-scoring, a determined defense, and a crucial shift in face-off strategy. Griffin McNaughton stepped up to take the majority of second-half face-offs, while Ameo provided additional support, ensuring the Falcons maintained possession and thwarted Cuthbertson’s momentum.

Despite the Falcons’ offensive surge, Cuthbertson’s defense tightened, preventing Nation Ford from pulling away. This defensive stand kept the game within reach, creating a tense atmosphere for the home crowd.

“Our second-half changes at face-off and LSM were more about getting fresh legs into the game,” explained Nation Ford Head Coach Cory Turner. “After being up early, our guys have to understand the game isn’t over and that the other team is not going to roll over. We need to play a complete game, and clean up the turnovers and penalties.”
