Fort Mill High School Track and Field Sweeps Y.C. Winborn Pre-Season Invitational 2025

Rock Hill, SC – Fort Mill High School showcased its dominance in the Y.C. Winborn Pre-Season Invitational 2025, winning both the boys’ and girls’ team championships. The Fort Mill boys scored 147.5 points, finishing ahead of Nation Ford (115) and Rock Hill (111), while the Fort Mill girls secured an emphatic victory with 187.83 points, outpacing South Pointe (97) and Clover (95).

The girls’ team was led by Mia Williams, who won three events: the 200m, long jump, and triple jump. The boys’ team was led by Isaac Campbell, who claimed victory in both the 1600m and 3200m.

The girls team got off to a quick start by finishing second in the 4x100m relay and winning the 4x800m relay, but only scored 4 points in the next two races (100m hurdles and 100m) allowing the field to catch up.  However, they responded quickly when Alivia Cleveland won the 1600m by a mere 0.65 seconds over Ella Neighbor of Clover, and Fort Mill runners also finish 3rd, 4th, and 7th scoring a combined 23 points in a single event.   Katelynn Fleming then won the 400m hurdles in an impressive time of 1:11.63 and Fort Mill took 2nd, 3rd, and 6th in the 800m building a large lead in the team standings. Mia Williams won the 200m in a personal best 25.91 and the team finished 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 7th in the 3200m.  Fort Mill closed out the meet with a 4th place finish in the 4x400m relay.

In the field events Fort Mill got off to a fast start, winning the first four events. Marisa Jones won the High Jump, Bella Grupp won the Pole Vault and Mia Williams won both the long jump and triple jump.  Addison Feinour added to the scoring by taking 2nd in the discus and 3rd in the shot put, while Leah Fricke and Ava Seay rounded out the scoring finishing 7th and 8th place respectfully in the Javlin.

The boys competition was much closer throughout the competition. The Fort Mill boys started the meet by mirroring the girls with a 2nd place finish in the 4x100m relay and winning the 4x800m relay, but also secured a 2nd place finish in the 100m by Jahzir McCants in 11.53.  They built a small lead by sweeping the top 3 spots and grabbing 7th in the 1600m, lead by winner Isaac Campbell at 4:37.43.  But Nation Ford responded by securing first, second and 8th in the 400m, and winning the 400m hurdles, keeping the team competition close. But Fort Mill rebounded when Connor Demmerle won the 800m, and his team mates finished 4th, 6th, and 8th to build on their small lead. McCants secured the 200m and Jayvon Grant added to the points finishing in 6th place. Fort Mill stamp out the competition in the 3200m. Lead by Issac Campbell in 1st with an impressive 9:52.13 finish, he was followed closely by Hudson Haley in 2nd (9:57.57), Owen Ware in 4th and Ben Madej in 8th. In the final event of the night, Fort Mill finished iced the win with a victory in the 4x400m relay.

In the field events Fort Mill didn’t have a victories, but they showed cased their depth securing valuable points for the team competition. Michael Tillman and Michael Scott finished 5th and 6th in the high jump, and Padyn Gossett-McDowell finished 3rd in the pole vault.  Painter Kelly and Cameron Norek finished 6th and 7th in the Triple Jump. Smith Stapleton finished 6th in the discus and 5th in the shot put to complete the field events for the team.
