Lancaster County will officially host a groundbreaking ceremony for its new Regional Athletic Complex at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 25. Located at 3434 Roselyn Avenue—off Charlotte Highway in the Roselyn neighborhood development—the $36.9 million facility is designed to serve local residents while drawing competitive sports tourism to the region.
Designed as a premier sports hub, the complex will feature three turf baseball fields complete with batting cages and bullpens, alongside three grass soccer fields sized for collegiate competition. Both sports zones will include dedicated concession stands. Once finished, the University of South Carolina – Lancaster baseball team will host its games at the site.
“I believe I share the same excitement as our citizens as we celebrate the groundbreaking of our new regional park,” said Lancaster County Council Chairman Brian Carnes. “This will be more than a place with championship-quality athletic fields. It will be a place where families gather, children play, athletes compete and our community comes together. Most importantly, this is an investment that will serve Lancaster County today and create memories and opportunities for generations in the future.”
In addition to elite athletic amenities, the park includes features tailored for everyday community recreation:
-
Interactive Splash Pad: A central family attraction designed to convert into a multi-use programming space during cooler months.
-
Support Infrastructure: A dedicated community room, maintenance building, and 750 parking spaces.
-
Economic Impact: Central positioning aimed at hosting regional sports tournaments to drive local tourism and business growth.
“I think we have come up with what we feel is a great facility that will accommodate our residents and even some sports tourism play on the fields as well,” noted County Administrator Brian Tucker.
Construction on the facility is expected to take up to 14 months, with an anticipated grand opening slated for the fourth quarter of 2027.
