Early Voting Opens Wednesday at Seven Sites Across York and Lancaster Counties

Voters in York and Lancaster counties who want to cast their ballots before Election Day in the South Carolina statewide primary runoff have two opportunities to do so this week. Early voting runs Wednesday, June 17, and Thursday, June 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day at seven locations across the two counties. The runoff election itself is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23.

Early voting sites will not be open on weekends or legal holidays, so Wednesday and Thursday are the only opportunities for in-person early balloting ahead of the runoff. No other precincts will be open during the early voting period.

What Is on the Ballot

The June 23 runoff settles several contested Republican primary races in which no candidate cleared 50 percent of the vote on June 9.

In the race for governor, Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, who led the Republican field with 28.86 percent, will face former state Attorney General Alan Wilson, who finished second with 26.14 percent. On the Democratic side, Jermaine Johnson won his party’s nomination outright and will not appear on the runoff ballot.

The Republican race for attorney general sends State Sen. Stephen Goldfinch, who led with 39.99 percent, against prosecutor David Stumbo, who took 35.66 percent. The winner will face Democrat Richard Hricik in November.

The Republican nomination for commissioner of agriculture remains undecided between Cody Simpson, who finished first with 38.14 percent, and Danny Ford at 37.25 percent. The winner advances to face Democrat DeShawn Blanding in the general election.

Election Day
