York School District Approves $74.4 Million Budget for 2026-2027 School Year

YORK, S.C. — The York School District One (YSD1) Board of Trustees approved a $74.4 million General Fund budget for the 2026-2027 school year during its regularly scheduled meeting on June 9, reaffirming the district’s commitment to supporting employees while maintaining fiscal responsibility for taxpayers.

The approved budget includes a $1,000 salary increase for teachers, a 2% cost-of-living increase for all other employees, and no increase to the district’s operating millage rate. District leaders say the budget reflects a balanced approach that prioritizes investing in the students of YSD1 and the people who serve those students every day.

“Our employees are the heart of York School District One, and investing in them is one of the most important investments we can make,” said Superintendent Dr. Heath Branham. “This budget reflects our commitment to supporting the people who serve students every day while remaining responsible stewards of our community’s resources.”

The budget was developed through a collaborative process that considered state funding projections, operational needs, employee compensation, and the district’s long-term strategic priorities.

“I would like to thank the YSD1 staff and Dr. Branham for their efforts this year and initially giving the board of trustees options for the budget,” said Board Chair Scott Childers. We appreciate the joint effort to get to a zero millage/tax increase for the 2026-2027 school year, while keeping our students first with continued efforts towards safety, discipline, and classroom sizes.”

The 2026-2027 budget will take effect July 1, 2026.
