A person died Wednesday afternoon after jumping from a boat on Lake Wylie near Little Allison Creek and failing to resurface, the York County Sheriff’s Office said. It was the second drowning on the lake in 10 days.
The incident was reported at approximately 2:05 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28. Responders arrived and began searching the water near Little Allison Creek, a cove along the York County shoreline of Lake Wylie. At approximately 3:07 p.m., the subject was located and CPR was initiated. At 4:10 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office confirmed that life saving measures had been unsuccessful.
The York County Coroner’s Office responded to Lake Wylie yesterday evening to investigate a water related fatality. The decedent, Evan Forbes (DOB 2/15/2010) of Charlotte, was located in the water by divers after he did not resurface.

A Second Tragedy in Two Weeks
The death is the second drowning fatality on Lake Wylie since May 19, when a body was recovered following a multi-day search. That incident also involved a person who jumped from a boat and did not resurface.
The Sheriff’s Office used the occasion to issue a water safety reminder to the public. “This tragedy should be a reminder to boaters as we go into summer boating season to take safety seriously and wear a life jacket when in the water,” the agency said in its update.
