A 70 year old Indian Land hunter has been missing since Saturday, May 2, prompting a multi agency search across hundreds of acres of wooded terrain along the Lancaster and Kershaw county line.
Charles Wayne “Charlie” McCoy was last heard from on the day he planned to go turkey hunting in the area off Mudhole Road near Stoneboro Road, southwest of Heath Springs. A family member reported him missing on Monday, May 4, after he failed to show for a scheduled appointment, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.
Vehicles Located, Hunter Still Missing
Search teams found McCoy’s white 2024 Toyota Tacoma and attached trailer at a local hunt club in the area. His Polaris side by side was discovered several miles down Mudhole Road on Monday night.
A command post has been established at the intersection of Stoneboro and Mudhole roads, with crews working across hundreds of acres of dense, heavily wooded terrain straddling the Lancaster and Kershaw county border.
Agencies Involved
Multiple agencies are taking part in the search effort, including the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office, South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, the State Law Enforcement Division, Lancaster County EMS, Lancaster County Fire Rescue, and the Coroner’s Mounted Response Unit. Crews are using K9 units, drones, and a SLED helicopter to cover the area.

McCoy is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall and 185 pounds. He has blue eyes, ear length graying brown hair, and a gray mustache and goatee.
