The Humane Society of York County is featuring two adoptable animals this week: a sphinx like cat named Broccoli and a young hound mix named TruFru.
Both pets are available at the shelter at 8177 Regent Parkway in Fort Mill, where staff say intake has been heavy as the rescue moves into May.
Cat of the Week: Broccoli
Broccoli is a striking shorthaired cat with a long nose and narrow head, giving him the appearance of a sphinx. The roughly one year old came to the shelter as an owner surrender through no fault of his own.
Staff describe him as full of personality, comfortable moving about the shelter’s large cat room and friendly with new visitors. They recommend letting him approach on his own terms and say he is searching for a person, couple, or family willing to give him time to adjust to a new home. Shelter staff are confident he could share a home with other cats given a proper transition.
Broccoli is tested, microchipped, vaccinated, and neutered.
Dog of the Week: TruFru
TruFru is an estimated eight month old hound mix who arrived at the shelter as a stray after being found in a construction area.
Despite a short stay so far, she has already begun joining shelter outings and has impressed everyone she has met, according to staff. They describe her as playful and loving, and say she would make a strong addition to the right home.
TruFru is spayed, tested, microchipped, and vaccinated.
How to Adopt or Help
Adoption appointments for either pet can be made by calling the shelter at 803-802-0902. Adoption requirements and procedures are available at humanesocietyofyorkcounty.org.
The shelter is also actively hiring and recruiting volunteers, and is accepting donations of supplies, funds, and gently used items for its Pawsibilities Thrift Shop. Foster sign ups are available through the shelter’s website.
So far in 2026, the Humane Society of York County has placed 73 dogs and 168 cats, for a total of 241 animals adopted into permanent homes.
