Tybee Island Police Department Warns Students Ahead of Senior Skip Day

The Tybee Island Police Department is reminding high school seniors that a day off from class does not mean a day off from the law, and promises it will not lecture anyone about perfect attendance or warn that they will end up “living in a van down by the river.”

In a Facebook post addressed to students across Chatham County, the department acknowledged the longstanding informal tradition of Senior Skip Day while making clear that officers would be out in force along the beach, including at the Back River.

“As always, state and local laws are in effect and will be enforced,” the post read.

The department struck a lighthearted tone, promising not to lecture students about attendance or their futures, before landing on a pointed question for anyone tempted to break the law: how exactly would they explain to their parents that they not only skipped school but also needed bond money?

The post closed with a playful but pointed reminder that a fun beach day can turn costly in a hurry.
