Gardening on the Cay Cultivates Community Through Beautification and Conservation

Gardening on the Cay, established in 1977, is a prominent garden club serving the Tega Cay and Fort Mill communities. The club has been affiliated with The Garden Club of South Carolina and the National Garden Clubs since 2003.

Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month from September through May at 6:30 PM in the lower-level conference room of the Glennon Center, located at 15083 Molokai Drive, Tega Cay, SC 29708.

These gatherings feature monthly programs, fellowship opportunities, and club business discussions.

The club actively engages in various community projects, including:

  • Tega Cay City Hall Christmas Décor 2024: Members decorated the city hall for the holiday season.
  • Memorial Garden at Pitcairn Park Roundabout: Established in 2023, this garden honors past club members.
  • Blue Star Memorial Markers: The club maintains markers at the I-77 Welcome Center and at the intersection of Highways 49 and 557 in Clover.
  • Family Promise of York County Carolina Fence Garden: Established in 2022, this garden supports the local community.
  • Fort Mill Care Center Beautification: Ongoing efforts include landscape maintenance and charitable projects.
  • National Wildlife Federation Certifications: The club assists in certifying local habitats.
  • Habitat for Humanity “Porch Warmings”: Since 2012, members have contributed to these initiatives.
  • Tega Cay Elementary School Certified Monarch Butterfly Waystation: Established in 2017 to support butterfly conservation.
  • Riverview Elementary School Carolina Fence Garden: Created in 2019 to enhance environmental education.
  • Tiny Sprouts Preschool Garden Club: Established in 2019 at the Anne Springs Close Greenway to introduce young children to gardening.
