Tega Cay, Fort Mill, York, Rock Hill, York County and Catawba Indian Nation Recognized for Watershed Protection Efforts by Lt. Governor Evette

SCDES, Lt. Governor Evette to Recognize Local Governments for Collaborative Watershed Protection Efforts  

COLUMBIA, S.C.  ̶  The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) and South Carolina Lt. Governor Pamela Evette are recognizing several local governments and entities for their effective collaboration on watershed planning and protection in and around York County. 

 The Watershed Evaluation Team (WET) is a working group comprised of stakeholders from multiple jurisdictions in York County, including Fort Mill, Tega Cay, Rock Hill, City of York, York County, the Catawba Regional Council of Governments and the Catawba Indian Nation. These stakeholders assembled the WET in 2022 to better understand and manage York County’s water resources. Through their cooperative efforts, the WET has developed watershed plans in their region and are working to implement identified watershed improvements. 

 WHO: Lt. Governor Pamela Evette, SCDES Interim Director Myra Reece, several governmental jurisdictions in York County 

WHAT: Presentation of SCDES’s “Power of Partnerships” award for collaborative efforts in environmental protection 

WHEN: 2:30-3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24 

WHERE: First Floor of the S.C. State House, 1100 Gervais St., Columbia 

 The WET stakeholder group will be the first recipients of SCDES’s “Power of Partnerships” recognition award, to be presented to those who demonstrate extraordinary partnership and collaboration in protecting and preserving South Carolina’s natural resources.
