Postal Service to Hold Off on Price Hike for First-Class Mail Until Mid-2025

WASHINGTON — The United States Postal Service (USPS) recently announced it will not increase prices for Market Dominant products, including First-Class Mail, in January 2025. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy recommended delaying any price adjustments, and the USPS Governors accepted the proposal. As a result, the cost of a stamp for a 1-ounce First-Class letter will remain unchanged for now.

“Our strategies are working, and projected inflation is declining,” said DeJoy. “Therefore, we will wait until at least July before proposing any increases for Market Dominant services.”

The USPS is focused on enhancing service reliability and operational efficiency while keeping costs in check. The current stamp price is among the lowest in the world for a domestic letter.

The decision aligns with the Postal Service’s broader goals under the Delivering for America 10-year plan, which aims to ensure a financially sustainable future while maintaining a six-day-a-week nationwide delivery network as mandated by Congress.
