Fort Mill, SC (Tega Cay Sun) – A new solar panel manufacturing facility from Silfab Solar has been approved by York County Council. However, some residents are concerned about the potential environmental impacts of the facility, particularly the release of hazardous air pollutants (HAPs).
To address these concerns, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) is holding a public hearing on Monday night from 6-8PM at the Fort Mill School District Office Training Center, 2233 Deerfield Drive, Fort Mill, SC. Residents are encouraged to attend and voice their opinions on the facility. DHEC is also accepting public comments via email until Friday, November 3 at [email protected]
The Silfab Solar facility is still awaiting permits from DHEC before it can begin operations. It will be located behind the DMV and near two public schools that are currently under construction in Fort Mill. The new schools will be on Gold Hill Road, between highways 460 and 21.
