PRESS RELEASE: Celebrating Local Female Veterans’ Journeys in a Distinctive Light

EVENT PRESS RELEASE

RELEASE DATE: 25 OCTOBER 2023

Tega Cay, S.C. The Tega Cay Veterans Association proudly announces a special partnership with the She Served Initiative, based in Atlanta, Georgia. This Veterans Day weekend, our two organizations unite with a common purpose: to pay tribute to the extraordinary journeys and inspiring stories of the female veterans who have served our nation.

A Captivating Event for Local Female Veterans

On November 10-11, we invite female veterans to join us for an unique photoshoot experience. In collaboration with photographer and the founder of the She Served Initiative, Martina Schmidt, each veteran will share their stories and create lasting memories. The She Served team will compile these unique stories and photographs into a beautifully designed two-page magazine layout, and will be featured in a single-page spotlight in “She Served Magazine.” This heartfelt tribute to our female veterans is entirely free for each participant. The Tega Cay edition of the magazine will be available online (in digital format) by year-end.

A.C. Williams, Commander of the Tega Cay Veterans Association, emphasized the significance of this initiative: “I know there is power in each person’s story, and I know there are many female veterans in our community. Our organization wanted to give them an opportunity to share their stories and know that their brothers in arms care. This year, we’re going the extra mile to bring our sisters in, and we hope they become active members of our veteran community.”

In the United States today, more than two million veterans are women. All too often, these remarkable women are overlooked, challenged, and doubted for their service. Schmidt, an Air Force veteran and professional photographer, recognized the need to bring attention and recognition to these women. Her vision gave birth to the She Served Initiative.

Uniting to Amplify Their Voices

This powerful partnership unites two organizations with a shared mission: to recognize, honor, and amplify the voices of the women who have served our nation with courage and dedication.

About Tega Cay Veterans Association

The Tega Cay Veterans Association was founded in November 2009 to provide honorably discharged veterans of the armed services with camaraderie, fellowship and esprit de corps. The unit hosts multiple events throughout the year.

About She Served Initiative

She Served is a celebration of military women – an acknowledgement of everything they accomplished while serving in the military – and recognition of everything they are still accomplishing today. Almost all the women Martina photographs still have a servant heart and serve their community in one way or another. By creating a portrait that portrays who they are now and sharing a little about these incredible women, Martina hopes to inspire many more people who will join her in recognizing and honoring all our women veterans.
