Nelda McDonald passed away Wednesday August 25, 2023, at her home in Tega Cay, SC.
Born April 21, 1939, in Monroe NC, she was the daughter of the late Crayton and Wincie Melton. She was a graduate of Prospect High School. Following graduation, she started a career at Southern Bell in Charlotte. In Charlotte, she met her husband, Paul. Later in life she worked for Clariant Corporation. There she made several lifelong friends before eventually retiring.
Nelda was a member of Good Shepherd Church in Charlotte. She was continually loved by the Good Shepherd congregation even when she couldn’t attend services in person. Her biggest joy in life was her family. If she was with family, she would be happy. She always said that the best times were when she was surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren. Nelda also loved her family from Union County. She always felt blessed to have grown up with two loving parents and six brothers and sisters. They have always and continue to take care of each other.
Nelda is survived by her husband of 64 years, Paul McDonald. They made a home and raised a family within the Steele Creek community in Charlotte.
In addition to her husband Paul, Nelda is survived by her daughter, Debra McDonald-Flynt of Charlotte and son, Keith McDonald (Denise) Seneca SC; grandchildren, Kathleen Atwell (Ben), Ryan McDonald (Lauren) and Conner McDonald, and great grandchild, Kate McDonald, and another grandchild, Baby Atwell due any day. As well as her brother, Jackie Melton (Nancy) and sisters, Tommie Stegall (Walter) and Ellen Cox (Butch – deceased).
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Elwin Melton (Ora Lee) and Herbert Melton (Joyce, deceased), a sister Judy Helms (CR, deceased) and beloved grandson, Corey Flynt.
A service to worship the Lord and celebrate Nelda’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday August 30, 2023. Services will be at Good Shepherd Church, 13100 Moss Road, Charlotte, NC. Family will receive friends following the service.
Private interment will be at Sharon Memorial Park.
