The Carolina Panthers have announced that they will be inducting defensive end Julius Peppers and wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad into the team’s prestigious Hall of Honor. The induction ceremony will take place at Bank of America Stadium during halftime of the game against the Houston Texans on October 29.
Julius Peppers, who was selected as the No. 2 pick in the 2002 draft, spent 10 of his 17 NFL seasons with the Panthers. He established himself as one of the premier defensive players of his era and was honored with selections to the league’s All-Decade Team in both the 2000s and 2010s. Peppers, a three-time All-Pro, boasts an impressive career record of 159 1/2 sacks, ranking him fourth in NFL history. He consistently excelled in the league, finishing in the top 10 in sacks on six occasions. Notably, Peppers is the only player to achieve a remarkable feat of recording at least 150 sacks and 10 interceptions in NFL history.
Muhsin Muhammad, on the other hand, spent 11 of his 14 NFL seasons as a member of the Carolina Panthers. In 2004, he was recognized as an All-Pro player, showcasing his exceptional skills as a wide receiver. Muhammad’s contributions to the team are evident in his second-place rankings in franchise history for receptions (696), receiving yards (9,255), and touchdowns (50), trailing only the legendary Steve Smith Sr. Moreover, Muhammad holds a Super Bowl record for the longest catch with an 85-yard touchdown reception in Super Bowl 38 against the New England Patriots.
Both Peppers and Muhammad have also received the esteemed Walter Payton Man of the Year award, highlighting their off-the-field contributions and character.
Expressing his admiration for the accomplished duo, Panthers owner David Tepper remarked, “Muhsin Muhammad and Julius Peppers were drafted by the Panthers. Both became All-Pros here. Both came back to Carolina to finish their careers. This is another homecoming, a permanent one.”
With their induction, Peppers and Muhammad join an esteemed group of individuals in the Panthers’ Hall of Honor, which includes former team president Mike McCormack (inducted in 1997), linebacker Sam Mills (1998), the team’s PSL owners (2004), and notable players such as Steve Smith Sr., Jake Delhomme, Jordan Gross, and Wesley Walls (all inducted in 2019).
