Fort Mill School Board Meeting Highlights
Discussion of the 2024-2025 Budget
Mrs. Leanne Lordo shared preliminary information regarding the 2024–2025 budget. The presentation included the following goals for the 2024–2025 budget:
• Recommend Balanced Budget
• Continue to Recruit and Retain Staff in All Service Areas by Adjusting Salary Schedules to Remain Competitive
• Maintain Reasonable Class Sizes At All Levels
• Provide Staffing to be in Compliance with Established State Ratios/Regulations
• Continue to Identify ESSER and Other Federal Program Positions needed to shift to General Fund After Funds Expire
The presentation also included funding projections from all sources, including funds provided by the state under the new school funding model. By law the maximum millage increase available to the district for 2024–2025 is 21.9 mills. Owner occupied homes that pay 4% property tax will not be impacted by any operating millage increase. Under ACT 388, the operating millage is funded by non-owner occupied homes, commercial property and vehicle taxes.
The current budget calculation includes increasing starting base teacher pay to $50k per year and pay increases for all staff classifications. Fort Mill currently spends less per pupil then all other York County School Districts and operates below the state per pupil average.
The budget process will continue with an update during the May 7, 2024 school board meeting that will include additional information regarding projected state funding. The Public Hearing on the Budget is scheduled for June 4, 2024 at 6 p.m.
Approval of the 2024-2025 Strategic Plan
The board voted to approve the Strategic plan as presented.
