Harold Gerard Leighton, 90, of Tega Cay, South Carolina, passed away peacefully in his sleep early on Monday, December 25, 2023, at Wellmore of Tega Cay.
Harold is survived by his wife, Carolyn Jeannette of 70 years; brother: William Leighton; children: Gerolyn Whittemore (Ken), Sherry Lingafelt (Wayne), Harold R. Leighton (Susan) and Jay Leighton (Lori); nine beautiful grandchildren, Jeremy (Anh), Candace (Rafael), Jackie (Ray), Matt (Amanda), Bill (Jeni), Kate (Matthew), Remie (Clarke), Gage, Sydney (Wells); and 14 wonderful great-grandchildren, Alex, Chloe, Selena, Carlisle, Sofie, Abby, Carly, Jackson, Graham, JJ, Jilli, Cam, Brianna and Josh. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Harry, Ray, Barbara, Jacqueline, and John, grandson Jason, and great-granddaughter, Madeline.
Harold was a man of many talents. He spent most of his career as an Electrician and Maintenance Engineer working in various environments, including, Loring Air Force Base, where he also served in the United States Air Force, the Pentagon, McCall Printing Company and Frito Lay. He could fix anything and saved his employers many resources and money. In his retirement years, he performed numerous asset audits for Frito-Lay, traveling widely across the county with his wife and family members. His hobbies included fly fishing, refurbishing and building homes, teaching his children how to fix and build, and spending time with his family.
Harold’s light-hearted humor was a bright spot for all who interacted with him in daily life. His amusing perspectives and sparkling blue eyes lifted all his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2023, at Palmetto Funeral Home of Ft. Mill, SC.
