South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has issued a stern warning to potential rioters ahead of this coming Saturday, as Flag Day events nationwide are anticipated to encounter resistance from protesters.
In a statement released today, Attorney General Wilson stated, “We have seen reports indicating potential coordinated protests and acts of civil disobedience planned for Saturday, June 14, Flag Day and President Donald J. Trump’s birthday.” He added, “Radical anti-American groups are organizing efforts that have the potential to disrupt public spaces, and provoke confrontation with law enforcement across the country.”
Wilson made it unequivocally clear that “Violence, vandalism, and any attempts to intimidate or obstruct law enforcement will not be tolerated in South Carolina.” He further warned, “If you attack law enforcement, destroy public or private property, or endanger lives in our state, you will be arrested, charged, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
The Attorney General’s office will be “actively coordinat[ing] with state, local, and federal law enforcement to monitor threats, and support response efforts.” Wilson also urged the public to “report any tips or information relating to potential riots or crime this weekend to local law enforcement agencies.”
Wilson concluded his statement by asserting, “South Carolina is a law and order state, and it’s going to stay that way.”
