Jhonattan Vegas bogeyed his final hole Friday at the PGA Championship, allowing a pack of major champions including Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele to gain ground.
Vegas’ double-bogey on the par-4 18th resulted in a 1-under 70, leaving him at 8-under 134 through two rounds at Quail Hollow.
Scheffler, who started the day five shots back, carded a 3-under 68 to move into a tie for fifth at 5-under.

McIlroy and Schauffele both needed solid rounds to make the cut, which fell at 1-over 143. McIlroy finished with consecutive bogeys for a 69, while Schauffele birdied the 15th and parred in for a 71, both finishing right on the cut line.
Matt Fitzpatrick also posted his second consecutive 68 to move into a tie for second at 6-under alongside Matthieu Pavon (65) and Si Woo Kim (68). Kim made the longest ace in major championship history with a 5-wood from 252 yards on the par-3 sixth.
Max Homa also shares fifth place with Scheffler after a morning 64 that included a birdie-eagle-birdie stretch.
Jordan Spieth (68) missed the cut by one stroke at 2-over, continuing his quest for the career grand slam. Other notable players who failed to advance to the weekend included Justin Thomas (73-72), Hideki Matsuyama (73-73), and Brooks Koepka (75-76).

Bryson DeChambeau (68) is at 3-under, while Jon Rahm (70) is at 2-under.
“I like the position I’m in going into the weekend,” Scheffler said. “Obviously, I wish I was a little further up the leaderboard (but) I think I’ve gotten a lot out of my game the last couple of days.”
Seventy-four players made the cut.
