ROCK HILL, S.C. — Hissho Sushi, one of the largest sushi distributors in the United States, is moving its corporate headquarters and primary distribution operations to York County, marking its first major operational footprint in South Carolina. The company announced a $5 million investment in the new facility, which is expected to create 146 new jobs in Rock Hill.
The new headquarters, located at 3621 Lazy Hawk Road, will serve multiple purposes, acting not only as the company’s central administrative hub but also as its franchisee training center and a major national distribution site. Operations are expected to begin in August 2025.
Founded in 1998, Hissho Sushi has rapidly grown to become a leader in delivering fresh, chef-crafted sushi and Asian-inspired products to more than 2,500 grocery stores, university campuses, and corporate foodservice locations across the country.
In announcing the move, Hissho Sushi President Matt Wilken highlighted the strategic advantages of relocating to York County. “Relocating to South Carolina is a major milestone in Hissho Sushi’s continued growth story. York County offers us the space, resources, and talent we need to fuel our next chapter, and we’re excited to become part of this vibrant community,” said Wilken.
South Carolina leaders praised the decision as a win for the region’s economy and workforce. Governor Henry McMaster welcomed the investment, stating, “We celebrate the 146 new jobs Hissho Sushi is bringing to our state and look forward to the positive impact this investment will have in York County and beyond.”
The South Carolina Department of Commerce also emphasized the importance of the move. “Hissho Sushi’s $5 million investment and new operation in York County is a testament to South Carolina’s thriving business climate and food distribution industry,” said Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey III.
To support the relocation, the Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits and awarded a $150,000 Set-Aside grant to York County to assist with road improvements around the site.
York County Council Vice Chairman Tom Audette applauded the announcement. “This investment brings quality jobs to our residents and highlights the advantages our region offers for companies looking to build and thrive. We’re proud to welcome Hissho Sushi to York County as they begin this next chapter.”
Hissho Sushi has been recognized nationally for its rapid growth, including accolades from Inc. 5000 and the Charlotte Business Journal’s Fast 50. The company remains committed to its mission to enrich lives and inspire greatness through its products and partnerships.
