Rock Hill, S.C. — A teacher at Castle Heights Middle School and head track coach at Rock Hill High School has been arrested on multiple charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.
Doug MacAlpine, 37, was taken into custody Monday afternoon and booked just before 3 p.m. He faces six counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. Authorities have not yet released specific details about the case, but say the investigation is ongoing.
MacAlpine joined Rock Hill High School as the boys and girls track coach in September 2023, while continuing his role as a teacher at Castle Heights.
Following his arrest, Rock Hill Schools confirmed MacAlpine was immediately placed on administrative leave.
In a public statement released Monday, the school district emphasized that no students from Rock Hill Schools were involved in the case and that student safety was never at risk.
“While we understand there may be concerns, we want to reassure our community that no students were involved in this situation,” the district said. “The safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority.”
The district also stated that it is cooperating fully with law enforcement and reiterated its commitment to maintaining high ethical standards among staff.
“We expect all staff members to serve as role models and uphold the trust placed in them by our students, families, and community. Any actions that compromise that trust are taken seriously,” the statement read.
Jail records confirm the charges against MacAlpine. No bond information has been released as of Monday evening.
